Norman P. Gamache — 1920–2013

Norman P. Gamache, age 92, of Lisbon Falls, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Russell Park Manor with his family at his side.

He was born on October 29, 1920, in Lisbon Center, a son of the late Edmond Gamache and Eva (Belanger) Gamache. He attended local schools and graduated from Lisbon High School in the class of 1937.

On June 21, 1941, he married the love of his life, Gertrude Elcik, at Saints Cyril and Methodius Church. Together they worked and raised their young family in Lisbon Falls. Gertrude passed away in 2002.

Norman worked most of his life at the Pejepscot Paper Company, serving as a foreman in the papermaking division. He retired in September of 1982 after 42 years of service.

He was a member of Holy Family Church and later Holy Trinity Church following the consolidation of the Catholic parishes. Norman served as an usher and church collector for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his two children: his son, John “Jack” Gamache and his wife, Beth, of Lisbon Falls; and his daughter, Nancy Kashmer and her husband, Larry, of Eliot. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Rita Leblond and her husband, Paul; and his sister-in-law, Madelyn Gamache.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude; his brothers, Leo and Raymond Gamache; and his sister, Anna Elcik.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Russell Park Manor for the excellent care provided during his final weeks, to the Marshwood staff for their support over the past two years, to Peg and Doris of Friends Alternative Care, and to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, followed by committal at St. Cyril Cemetery in Lisbon Falls. A celebration of Norman’s life was held afterward at the Holy Trinity Dining Hall. Arrangements were provided by The Crosman Funeral Home of Lisbon Falls.
