Richard A. Elcik, age 85, of West Gardiner, Maine, passed away on December 6, 2016, at the Togus Springs Hospice Unit. A United States Navy veteran and longtime Maine State Trooper, Richard devoted his life to service, duty, and family.
Richard was born on January 29, 1931, in Lisbon Falls, Maine, the son of John Paul Elcik and Mary Gertrude Elcik. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he entered law enforcement and went on to serve the people of Maine as a state trooper for twenty-eight years.
Throughout his career, Richard was known for professionalism, steadiness under pressure, and a strong sense of responsibility. His work frequently placed him at the center of complex situations, which he handled with care and clarity.
Following his retirement, Richard enjoyed summers at Moosehead Lake, where he found pleasure in hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Cecile Elcik, and his stepson, Ronald J. Randall. He is survived by stepson Robert F. Randall and wife Bonnie of Brewer; son Mark R. Elcik and wife Debbie of West Gardiner; daughter Cheryl Heath and husband Joseph of Pittston; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held on December 9, 2016, at Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner, Maine, followed by a funeral service. The family expressed gratitude to the staff of Togus Springs Hospice for their compassionate care.
