John P. Elcik, age 76, died on Wednesday morning, September 3, 1962, at CMG Hospital in Lewiston, Maine.
He was born on March 16, 1886, in Czechoslovakia, the son of Paul Elcik and Mary Elcik. John immigrated to the United States fifty-eight years prior to his death and established his life and family in Maine.
Mr. Elcik was employed for many years by the Pejepscot Paper Company, retiring approximately three years before his death. In 1905, he married Mary Jonek, who predeceased him in 1951.
He was a member of St. Cyril and Methodius Church and of the Jednota Catholic Society, maintaining strong ties to his faith and cultural community.
He is survived by four sons: Joseph of Brooklyn, New York; Andrew of Corona, New York; George of Lisbon Falls; and Michael of Miami, Florida; one daughter, Mrs. Mary King of Westville, New Hampshire; one brother, Paul Elcik of Lisbon Falls; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, with a Requiem High Mass at St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Lisbon Falls. Interment followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lisbon Falls. Friends were received at his late residence in Durham.
