Keri Lucas Offered Help

Sat, 30 May 2009 9:09 pm

Keri,

We would be pleased to help. I remember your grandparents very fondly. The massive home that housed so many cousins, which they had in Old Orchard Beach, was very special to my brothers and me.

And while I didn’t get to see my cousins often because our Dad was in the Navy, I nevertheless do have unforgettable memories. Who are your Mom and Dad?

I have been working on a book which I call “My Cousins.” The book, because of graphics, is 7 MB; I don’t think AOL will let me send you a file this big. But if you will provide us a snail mail address, I’ll send you a copy.

As a software developer, I have used all the major players; the best software is Family Tree Maker by Ancestory.com. It simplifies research considerably.

We also have had both of our children: J.P. & Michelle’s DNA tested through Ancestry.com. Interesting technology.

And finally, I have been working on a family website. I have your grandmother’s obituary on the site. [This site no longer exists. Instead, the new URL is https://mycousins.org – Editor]

If you know how to work on websites, I’m willing to provide you access to add to them. Either way, it was good to hear from you.

Quick Cookies

Quick Cookies

These “chocolate no bake cookies” have long been an Elcik family favorite.  John and Michelle like to make them together to give as Christmas presents.  And sometimes there are enough left over to do that.

Place together:

  • 4 cups of sugar
  • ½ lb. Butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup powdered cocoa

Boil above for 30 seconds., then Add:

  • 6 cups rolled oats
  • 2 cups peanut butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Drop on waxed paper.

Makes 5 dozen cookies.

Request for Family Photos

Jim & Jeff,

I’m working on the “blood relatives” website project and need just a couple of photos.

Can you email me recent individual headshots (something from the last 2-3 years) of everyone in your nuclear family? (Dad, Mom, Children, Dogs, Cats)

The end picture will be a square photo of 500×500 pixels, but I can easily crop and resize any image. Mostly, I’m looking for realism.

Regards,

John, IV

P.S. Of course, if you want to send me a flash drive with all your photos, I do have a backup system in place. ?

Blood Relatives Website

Jul 1, 2020, at 11:21 AM,

Jim & Jeff,

Our “Blood Relatives” website will be using a membership plugin that allows us total control over who has access to menu page items down to the level of who has access to specific posts. I will be making all three of us administrators. We can add others as administrators or editors like you, and I wish.

The site will be easy-to-use.

Currently, the public can only access the Home, About Us, and Contact us pages.

I am thinking about making obituaries and recipes public. I have 27 obituaries. I acknowledge where the obituaries come from, but I post a copy since they sometimes disappear from public viewing.

I want to send both of your credentials so that you will have full access. The site has 287 posts and a couple of dozen pictures at this point. I’m not planning on adding many pictures as Facebook does a better job than I can. Perhaps, a focused gallery of a dozen or so photos of each family member?

Send me a note if you want a login. Also, please share the summary details with the rest of the family. If you or they send me their email addresses, I will create user accounts.

Thanks for listening. I hope I have your support on this.

Love,

John

DNA

Wed 7/1/2020 7:58 PM

Hello,

I know it’s been years (June 2011) since you reached out to me. Ouch!

I’m retired now and have time to experiment with DNA, etc. Are you still interested? Or did you get answers on your own?

I have set aside funds for research and can do another DNA test if you wish. Before I would do one, I would like to confirm that the Y-37 markers are where you are with your research? Or did you ever do the Y-111 markers? It would be a shame to do one test only to find you settled on something else. Also, do I correctly remember that you liked Family Tree DNA?

Warmest regards,

John

P.S. I have been working on a family website: https://mycousins.org. I use a membership plugin to control access for the privacy of living members. I can provide you a login/password if you like. ? Also, the Cousins Family Tree on Ancestory.com has been made public.

BloodRelatives Website

Wed 7/1/2020 9:11 PM

Jim and Jeff,

Subject to additional thought and discussion with you guys.

Facebook is FREE but has detractors that say that it’s rules on privacy and the 1st amendment are reasons for being wary of its use. We all use it because it is convenient as well as FREE. The bottom line, it may mean that any use of the family site is unlikely? Maybe.

Ancestory.com has limited features for free usage. But if you are willing to pay, the features can’t be beaten. The ease with which online documentation of life events and family is used by Ancestry to generate reports is remarkable. There are two downsides. First, it is expensive: $24.99-$49.99 a month per user. The second is that while there is a standard for downloading a family tree, documents and artifacts uploaded or linked to online are not readily available. They become hostage to having an account. I doubt they would go out of business, but. I’m attaching sample reports on me for you to see.

The 3 Clan’s I created on BloodRelatives.org are unique and could be fun. Recipes could be fun. Obituaries, while not fun, could be uploaded to Ancestor.com. It, along with the hundreds of posts I’ve collected.

What do you think? Is there enough interest in our website? Do I continue to build the site out?

Before answering, you might like to take advantage of the one month FREE trial at Ancestory.com. Our Family Tree etc. is called “Cousins,” and I have made it available to the general public. Ancestrory.com protects the privacy of living people. Check it out.
