John R. “Pete” Lucas, of South Berwick, Maine, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 9, 2021, with his loving family at his side.
John was born on April 3, 1944, in Lewiston, Maine, the oldest son of John L. Lucas and Madeline R. Lucas (Elcik).
He was married for 57 years to his devoted wife, Lorraine Lucas. Together they raised a family grounded in deep love, loyalty, and mutual support.
John worked in several careers over his lifetime, including roles as a purchaser at National Sea Products, a builder, and a painter. His favorite work, however, was serving as co-proprietor of Lucas Sunoco in North Berwick, Maine, where he partnered with his brother L. Michael Lucas for several years.
A devoted grandfather, John cherished time spent with his grandsons. He shared a love of fishing with Alexander Wolcott, including a memorable trip to Alaska, and supported Andrew Wolcott in his love of sports, attending many baseball games, including a trip to Cooperstown.
John was known for his kindness, humility, and unwavering dedication to family. He was a protector and provider, admired for his generosity of spirit and his ability to listen, understand, and accept others without judgment.

Services & Remembrance
Funeral services were held privately. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home of York, Maine, assisted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations were requested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family expressed deep gratitude to the staff of Wentworth Hospice in Somersworth, New Hampshire, for their compassionate care during John’s final months.
