Ancestors - The Elcik family in 1910, We Have Traveled FarCreating Profiles for “We Have Traveled Far” is the perfect way for us to begin writing about our ancestors. We choose a single ancestor, so we create shorter documents. The goal is to create a snapshot of just a part of each ancestor’s life.  This focus can be about character or events, educational or entertaining. It must be more than just the basic facts like education, work, relationships, and death. It should portray how a person experiences life events. Profiles may be based on facts discovered through research.  But, if possible, interviews with the subject and their friends, family, or work associates are desirable. Short snapshots are easier to write and fun to read.  Try it and see for yourself.

The U.S. Federal Census, Find-A-Grave, and obituaries are the genealogy sources we begin with because they are readily available.  We also reach out to family members and ask for their help. Sometimes, we get lucky because the family has artifacts for their ancestors.

Part of a successful “We Have Traveled Far” profile is our unique format for organizing facts about ancestors.
