Updates for the Gamache Surname

Sat 7/25/2020 11:54 PM

John,

Jack’s grandfather, Edmond 1889-1956, had five siblings-James 1880-1950, Alma 1883-1908, Alphonse 1886-1970, Laura 1892-??, Alfred 1898-1952.

James had a son, Sylvio 1908-1996, Sylvio had a son Paul 1939-1948.

There are four generations of Nicolas Gamache. The first was born in 1601, died in France in 1680. He had a son Nicolas, born 1639, died 1699 in Canada, and He had a son Nicolas born 1680, died 1734 in Canada. He had a son Nicolas, born 1707, died in South Africa. No record of the year he died.

Alphonse had a son, Elmo J.1916-1980, and a daughter, Lucienne, 1911-1972. She is Lucienne Gamache, and she married Leo T. Moore. Saying that she may not be the Lucienne, you’re looking for but is the only one I can find.

Alfred had a son, Romeo B. 1926-2009

Sylvio, Elmo, Lucienne (if she’s the right one), and Romeo were all 1st cousins of Jack’s dad. Paul is a 1st cousin once removed.

I hope this helps you in your search for who they are.

Thanks, John.

I’ll make the changes. I knew Jack’s grandfather’s 1st name was Joseph but haven’t corrected it yet but will do. I’ve spent so much time on my family genealogy and not as much on Jack’s. The John P. ELcik’s are driving me crazy.

I also have Family Tree Maker and have imported my entire family tree to that software. I’m still learning how to navigate my way around. Like everything, it’s a “work in progress”!!

John,

You may be right about that. I’m not convinced yet and will continue to research. I just talked to Eugene Elcik, 26 Mar 1933, his wife Lorraine Lefrancois, 5 Jun 1935. He had a brother, Andrew. His father was Andrew Elcik 1901-1950, mother Jennie Walker-I don’t know the Bday. They are both buried in the same cemetery as Jack’s parents.

He did tell me there was a Joseph Elcik but didn’t know who he’s connected to, and it’s not him. He remembers your father, Jack’s mother, and their siblings. He’s an author and has written several books, including one on Shiloh, and is currently writing the 2nd book on Shiloh. I’ve read his 1st one, very interesting.

Thank you for the explanations about Family Tree Maker. I’ll be working on that later today. I’m always afraid to try something I don’t understand. I believe with your help; I can achieve more in less time. I’m willing to give it a try!! I have also talked to Pam Lizotte. Her dad is George Karkos, whose mother is Annie Elcik. She’s at work right now, and we’ll talk later. She has all the births and deaths of Annie’s siblings. My head is spinning with all this!!
