Re: You Are a Writer

John,

I love the Ben Franklin Quote.  I’ve never heard it before, and that’s exactly how I learn by being involved.  That’s probably no surprise to you.  Our many, many conversations the past several months are proof of that.  I’ve lost count of how many times you’ve had to explain things to me, and you DO know what I’m talking about!!
I think it’s wonderful that you’re corresponding with Zlatica, your newfound Slovak cousin.  She definitely has been very helpful.

Re: Slovak “Lullaby”

John,

You mentioned that the songs are not at all what you expected and I couldn’t agree more.  It seems both songs are about cooking/food.  The one we call the Nursery Rhyme doesn’t seem to be a Nursery Rhyme at all.  I also think the gestures they make are the grandmother throwing the food in the oven.  I know at the end of the song, they mention Zeda, which is grandfather in Slovak.  I’m guessing you know that.
I haven’t heard back from my friend I gave the flash drive to with the songs on it.  I hope I do soon to compare what he thinks.

This may be another piece to the Slovak songs puzzle being solved.

Re: Grandparents

John,

My sister-in-law called her grandfather Dzedo and my brother, her husband, goes by Dzedo to his grandchildren.  She goes by Bubba.
I don’t think it’s any different for other nationalities.  My best friend’s grandchildren call her Mammy and her husband, Papa.  We don’t know the Slovak language, and that’s why we’re having problems with grandmother and grandfather’s words and spellings.
It’s very interesting to learn about the different spellings, etc., of the Slovak language.  Zlatica, aka Goldie, has been a wonderful source of information about that.  She’s a gem for sure, and you’re lucky to be in touch with her.

George Evanisko and Anna Elcik

Tue 2/16/2021 2:55 PM
John,
I’ve done some more research about George Evanisko and Anna Elcik.  My best friend in high school, Barb, has a connection to the Evanisko family.  Her husband’s brother is married to Mildred Evanisko.  Her sister-in-law has written an Evanisko family history; her name is Pat Evanisko.  Pat married Mildred’s brother, Marvin, who passed away a few years ago from cancer.

Moving on, Pat has seen the gravestone at St. Cyril cemetery and doesn’t know who George is and can’t find any connection to the Evanisko family.  She said it’s a dead end.  A survivor of George is Sgt. Michael Evanisko and my friend said Mildred’s either father’s or grandfather’s name was Michael.  She’ll talk to Mildred again and get back to me with any more information she may find.

Re: Moulton Family Stories

John & Becky,

This is truly amazing what you’ve done for us, Becky.  As I was reading your story about your dad’s family history, I could easily envision all the rooms you were talking about in the house you grew up in.  Oh, what memories and thoughts must have gone through your mind as you were learning and writing about the history of the farm.

This is a priceless piece of history to hold dear to your heart and hopefully preserved forever.  Kudos to you Becky for all your work and dedication to complete this project.

Thank you and I love you and Bryan, that guy you live with.

Re: Ancestry.com

John,

I understand your frustration in continuing your Ancestry research.  I think we’ve both done all we can do concerning the Elcik family tree.  Lack of available records has made it difficult, or should I say impossible, to proceed.  I’ve done everything I can think of to help but always run into roadblocks.  I WILL eventually look at St. Cyril and Hillside maps at the HS as soon as they open.  Hopefully, there will be info as to where your great grandfather and mother are buried.

I did learn that the records for St. Cyril and Holy Family churches are at a Catholic church in Lewiston.  I know there aren’t enough priests for the area churches, and the church population has declined in recent years.  They combined the 3 Catholic churches in Lisbon/Lisbon Falls many years ago and built one large church (Holy Trinity) across the street from us for those same reasons.

I still have the 3 flash drives you sent me.  One of them is blank, one has Family sheets, etc., on it, and the 3rd one is for me to keep.  I haven’t downloaded info onto the blank one yet, and I still plan to do that.  When I do, I’ll send both of them to you.  I’ve been doing the HS reports since Christmas and hope to finish that in a few days.  Honestly, I’ve been procrastinating on doing all of that and need to get back at it.

I, too, have enjoyed this journey with you.  Stay in touch.
