John,
Yes, they live on the farm, but it isn’t a working farm. The cows they have are Larry’s pets. He still has to feed and clean out the stalls every day and work a full-time job at the shipyard in Portsmouth, NH.

John,
One of my friends at the Historical Society sent you a friend request on FB, at least I think it’s you. His name is Bill Cizmar. I told him about our collaboration on doing the Elcik family tree.
I got an email from him, and he asked me if you’re an author. I’m not sure if he got the correct John P. Elcik.
Just curious,
Beth
John,
I committed a MAJOR BLUNDER last night. I deleted the Gamache Ancestry Tree. I was tired and can I say “it was an accident” and I know better. I am sick over this because I spent a lot of time creating it, and it was lengthy. Thank goodness I have most of it written down in my notebook and will start from scratch.
If I shared it with you on Ancestry, you probably lost it too. I’ve looked at your flash drive, and it’s awesome. I’m going to save the files and pictures on my computer. Between doing that and doing the Gamache Ancestry, I have enough to keep me busy for a longggggggg time.
Jack has started playing pool two nights a week, and I’ll do a lot of it then. We do a lot together during the day, and it’s difficult for me to find blocks of time to spend on the computer. We’re making Loksa today, and that’s time-consuming. I cooked the potatoes yesterday and put them in the refrigerator overnight. I roll them, and Jack butters them after they’re done cooking in the pan. Jack made a Loksa pan many years ago, and we always use that. He’s been craving it, so that’s today’s project.
I also have a very LARGE garden that needs cleaning up before snow flies, and I’ll start working on that this week. Jack likes the gardens but HATES working in them. I, on the other hand, LOVE gardening. It’s one of my summer hobbies!!
I talked to Nancy yesterday and will send you the list of birthdates/marriages you want.
Just a little update on a few things and to let you know how mad I am at myself, and I haven’t forgiven myself YET for my BLUNDER. I’ll get over it and move on. It can be “fixed!”
The Gamache Ancestry Tree is my priority!!
Beth
John,
I’m so happy you talked with Nancy. I’m sure the two of you had lots to talk about.
I DO have a Gamache tree on My Heritage and just created a GEDCOM. It’s smaller than the one I had on Ancestry, but it’s a starting point.
My mouse just croaked on me too—time for a new one. I’m cursed!!!

John,
I imported the Gamache file from My Heritage, and YES, I have it back on Ancestry, including pictures. I’ll look at HINTS for sure and will start saving sources as well. I WILL sync with Family Tree.
I am breathing easier. I panicked last night and only slept for 3 hrs. I was up at 3:30 messing around and spent an hour or more looking at your flash drive and sending and receiving texts from kids and grandkids.
Do you want me to share my Gamache Family Tree with you? If you do, you’ll see Lucille Fortin and Clarence Gamache. They had three boys and one girl. The girl was Mary Beth, and our daughter Loni Beth and Mary Beth were best friends all through school. Her mother, Lucille, was a 4th-grade teacher in the same school where I taught. Mary Beth was at our house a lot and lived three houses down from us. She always called me mom. Mary Beth lives in Rhode Island, and we rarely see her, but we keep in touch on FB. She’s married to William (Bill) Daignault, and they have a daughter, Emma Daignault. I saw the pictures you have of Emma on your flash drive. I thought you’d like to hear the story of who she is and how she’s connected to us. Loni was a bridesmaid at Mary Beth’s wedding.
Time to move on with my day. Thank you for listening to me, Whine about my BLUNDER and help me fix it.
I’m happy now,
Beth

John,
I believe you’re an author even if you haven’t “published” any books. I talked to Eugene Elcik on the phone about his family, and his father is Andrew Elcik, your grandfather, John P Elcik’s brother. (I’m thinking you know that.) When I talked to him, he told me he’s currently writing a second book on Shiloh. I read the first one very interesting. I plan to call him again and ask him if he remembers the Durham Elciks.
I’m still working on the identity of the Karkos photo you sent me. I sent it to Pam Karkos Lizotte, and she’ll show it to her father, George Karkos. I haven’t heard back from her. I have a neighbor I talked to about the picture, hoping he may know some of them. I also gave two copies of the image to a friend of ours, John Piela, who owns Lisbon Fuel. He’s 82, still working, and came to our house to service our oil tank. We were making the Loksa, and he said his mother used to make it, and he ate it as fast as she could make it. He started talking in Slovak and didn’t think anyone knew how to make Loksa anymore. I told him I learned how to make it from Jack’s mom (which is true), and she was Slovak. He said his family would put sugar on it or maple syrup. We gave him a piece, and he loved it!!
If you and Bill Cizmar became friends, I know you’d have lots in common. He loves Ancestry and spends most of his time doing all kinds of research there. He knows way more about it than I do and is one of my good friends at the Historical Society. He lives in CA with his wife. Bill is from Lisbon and knows lots of Lisbon history. If you’ve ever seen Lisbon Maine Ancestors in the HINTS, that’s him. He researched all the people born in Lisbon and created that site. He and his wife (a Durham native) come to Maine every summer, and he comes to the Historical Society every Thursday, which is the only day we’re open. I’ve mentioned your name to him in our emails about our working on Ancestry together—just a little history.
I’ll keep working on the identity of the people in the Karkos picture. Nothing yet, but I’m curious.
