DNA Matches by Vendor

Ancestry.com

Ancestry.com reports 28,903 DNA matches, including 2,061 close matches (4th cousin or closer, 20–3,490 shared centimorgans) and 26,842 distant matches (6–20 shared centimorgans).

Listed below are all close and extended family matches where a common ancestor has been identified. In addition, there are 28 distant family matches where a shared ancestor appears in a family tree.

DNA puzzles on Ancestry.com are far more solvable when family trees are made public.

MyHeritage

MyHeritage reports 4,802 DNA matches. Of these, one is a close family member and two are extended family members. All remaining matches are distant.

MyHeritage was chosen in hopes of locating European relatives. Based on the results, it is best recommended if a family tree is already hosted there.

Although none of the DNA puzzles have been solved through MyHeritage, it was a pleasure to discover a DNA connection with Earl Williams—one of the “Fantastic Four.”

Terminology

The terms Close, Extended, and Distant family are defined by each DNA testing vendor and may not align exactly between platforms—or with traditional genealogical definitions.

Among the vendors used, Ancestry.com provides the clearest definitions.
