DNA Puzzles for John P. Elcik, IV

Ancestry.com

28,903 matches with 2,061 close matches (4th cousin or closer, 20-3,490 shared centimorgans) and 26,842 distant matches (6-20 shared centimorgans). I have listed all 14 close and the 3 extended family matches where a common Ancestor was found. There also are 28 Distant Family where a common Ancestor was found in a family tree.  I found DNA puzzles on Ancestry.com are solvable when family trees are made public.

MyHeritage

4,802 DNA Matches. I have listed 1 close family member and 2 extended family members. All other matches are distant. I believed MyHeritage would be a good choice for locating European relatives.  Given these results, I can only suggest MyHeritage DNA if your tree is already hosted there. While none of my DNA puzzles has been solved at MyHeritage, it was fun to have Earl Williams (part of the Fantastic Four) pick up on a DNA match between the two of us.

Terminology

Close, Extended, and Distant family are terms defined by the vendors and may not mean the same thing to a different vendor or us. Ancestry, see above, seems to provide the clearest definitions.

Judith C. LakkisFamilyTreeDNA
12-12 match
match 23 out of 25 markers
Judy was my first DNA contact.  She is a retired Xray Technician. Her father is John Chester Spivak. His father was Timothy Spivak, and his mother was Tessie Spivak. There are many spellings of Spivak. Her grandmother was registered as Spewak, and there is Spivack, so they settled on Spivak.
If 2 people match at 12 out of 12 markers, there is a 50% chance they are related in the past 7 generations, a 90% chance they are related in less than 23 generations, and a 95% chance related in 29 generations.

A 23/25 match between two men who share a surname (or variant) means sharing a common male ancestor within the genealogical time frame. The probability of a relationship is good. However, your results show mutations and more time between you and the other same surnamed person.

We believe her Polish family is connected to us. Another DNA test is unlikely as we lack Spivak male DNA for testing.

Unknown Anatolian. (Anatolia constitutes the Asian portion of Turkey.)23andMeYou most likely had a third-great-grandparent, fourth-great-grandparent, fifth-great-grandparent, sixth-great-grandparent, or seventh-great- (or greater) grandparent who was 100% Anatolian. This person was likely born between 1700 and 1820.
