Herman Harlow Haverkamp 1930–1997

Herman Harlow “Hank” Haverkamp, age 67, of Mandan, North Dakota, died on May 8, 1997, at the New Salem nursing home, where he had resided for one year.

Harlow was born on January 31, 1930, in Ogema, Minnesota, the son of Herman Haverkamp and Mary Haverkamp (Cluckey). He was raised and educated in Ogema.

He moved to North Dakota in 1950 and on November 18, 1951, married Lillian Brunmeier in Zap, North Dakota. Harlow had been a resident of Mandan since 1953.

Harlow was employed as a control room operator at Heskett Power Station in Mandan from 1957 until his retirement in 1988.

He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1957 and later in the United States Army Reserves until 1960. He was a former member of the American Legion, Moose, Eagles, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Harlow was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian Haverkamp, who died March 31, 1989; two brothers, Ivan and Larry; and one sister, Melverna.

Services & Burial

Funeral services were held at First Lutheran Church in Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial followed at Mandan Union Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation was held at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan.
