Ivan Haverkamp 1913–1996

Ivan Haverkamp, age 83, of Hibbing, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, December 3, 1996, in a local nursing home.

Ivan was born on April 22, 1913, in Calloway, Minnesota, the son of Herman Haverkamp and Mary Haverkamp. He lived in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, until moving to Hibbing in 1935.

In 1936, he married Lauretta McCabe. Ivan later retired as a heavy equipment operator at the Hanna-Butler Mine. Earlier in his career, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps, Company 717, at Side Lake during 1934 and 1935.

Ivan was an active member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and belonged to numerous organizations, including the Hibbing Moose Club, Izaak Walton League, Swamp Siders Snowmobile Club, Knights of Columbus, and United Steelworkers of America Local 2660. He also served as a gun safety instructor and was past president of the Pokegama Dance Club.
