Naida J. Skillin, age 79, of Central Bridge, Schoharie County, New York, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at her home.
She was born on May 31, 1929, in Maine, the daughter of Carlton Fickett and Phyllis (Reed) Fickett.
Naida worked for several years as a waitress at the Duanesburg Diner and later at Friendly’s Restaurant at Crossgates Mall. She was known for her warmth, dedication, and strong work ethic.
She is survived by her beloved life partner, Clarence Rickard.
Naida is also survived by her children: Claudia Rae Chapman of Odenton, Maryland; Clyde Raymond Skillin III of Prince Frederick, Maryland; and Herman Dale Baker of Oxford, Maine.
Her grandchildren include Arran A. Adams, Tammi L. Channell, and Brandon P. Skillin. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren Bryan Channell, Sarah Nicole Williams, Kimberly Erin Williams, and John Ricardo Girolamo.
She is also survived by her sisters Theva Stevens, Winnona Polland, and Carlton S. Fickett, along with Dean Purinton and fourteen other living nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home in Cobleskill, New York.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were suggested to the Brem Foundation to support breast cancer research.
