Re: Questions & Answers

Beth,

Thank you.

I should have recorded in the Elcik tree that your mother’s maiden name was Goddard.  Maybe, the rule of thumb is to record parents and siblings of cousins and their spouses. If, so I need to do some additional work on the Lucas family, for example.

I’m still of the opinion I don’t want to travel far down the road of your trees.  But I also want enough information so that the reader knows which surname to ask you about. ?

I can open the eBook, but when I click on My Cousins, it says no content available.  Not sure what you or I need to do to fix it.

Also, Nancy called us yesterday and told us Pete Lucas isn’t doing well.  He has prostate cancer and has decided not to do any treatment.  Hospice is coming to the house to help them out.  Christine and her husband Bryant Currier moved to FL a couple of years ago, but Christine is in Maine to help out.  If the Christine you reached out to is the same Christine, I’m sure she won’t respond.

I thought you’d want to know about Pete.

John,

I’m curious, what is the messaging feature you mentioned on Ancestry, and how do you use it?  I”m not familiar with that.

You also said you have 14 people with potential interest regarding your great grandfather.  That’s wonderful.  You’ve done a lot of work to try and figure out the Elcik puzzle, which is a very complicated process.  I am anxious to see where this goes.

I’m in awe of your enthusiasm and tenacity to complete the puzzle.

Beth,

When you are on a person’s profile, look to the right, and select the Tools pulldown menu. Select Member Connect. If anyone else is interested in that person, Ancestry provides a list of suggested connections.  The same Ancestry Tool we have used for ourselves is provided for making the connection.

They may not all be good leads, but Bill, Robert, and yourself were three of the 14 for my Great-great Grandfather: John, Sr. One of the others had several family trees, one of which was for the Lucas family.

As someone once said, it is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Lol.

Charlie,
I could easily harbor some feelings of envy for reasons that you might relate to.
All my cousins grew up and stayed in their local hometowns in Maine. The Gamache family in Lisbon Falls and the Lucas family in Old Orchard Beach/York, Maine. For most of my childhood, I relocated every several years. And as an adult, the moves were more often than I would have wished for.
The John and Madeline Lucas family has seven children (my first cousins) and lived in a huge house.  In contrast to my father’s Navy career, I thought I would put down roots in a small town and have a large family. I also wanted a multi-generational home. Lol.
A historical note is appropriate. The large house I envied was the Lucas family home. In August 2012, it became the York Harbor Inn’s newest luxury property: Chapman Cottage and Tavern. It is on my to-do list to stay there someday.
Interestingly, my wife Pam’s family is smaller than mine.  And she and our two children are quite enough. I am grateful that we all live within a few minutes of each other.  If Pam agreed, I would have become a DIY guy and built a “tiny” home. She won’t, and I haven’t. Are you familiar with the concept? That is a significant change in direction. Lol.

Beth,

Sad news indeed. I also have heard from Cheryl Health and Janet Welsh.  I heard from both despite my Facebook account being suspended and then reactivated. Not sure how either happened.

Tomorrow, Pam and I will figure out some way to express our heartfelt condolences to all.
May Pete rest in peace as I know he was suffering in this world.
