Family Tree, etc.

Wed Jul 22, 2020, 6:08 AM

Janet,

The Family Tree I’m working on is quite robust because of the advantages computers give us.

The Tree includes information on all branches of our family, Elcik, Lucas, and more.
Ultimately, the project requires review by the people that know the individuals best. Would you be willing to review what I have on your parents? The final documents are something that I think you will cherish. And I get the satisfaction of knowing that I got their life stories right. What do you think?

Share your email address, and I will snd you four documents. There are a LifeStory and a Fact document for each parent. ?
With an eMail address, I could also provide you access to the whole Tree as a guest, contributor, or editor. Let me know if you want to do either of these options or both.

Warmest regards,

John

Our Ties to Western Europe

Wed 7/22/2020 12:02 PM

All.

The Elcik’s in our Family tree can be said to originate from Western Europe. Their individual responses in Census reports, etc. may be due as much to economics and politics as to specific geography. How they identified is as follows:

  • Czech Republic (14)
  • Austria (13)
  • Austria-Hungary (4)
  • Hungary (4)
  • Slovakia (4)
  • Austria-Slovakia (3)

Beth’s Ancestry Journey

July 22, 2020, 08:55 PM

John, IV,

I haven’t heard back from George Karkos but will keep you informed about what I find out. I have a 2nd cousin who lives in Bowdoin, ME (I never knew he existed), which is about 5 miles from where we live. When I started my Ancestry journey, I found him by accident after visiting a cemetery in that town from a poster with his name and phone # on it. I called him, we met at his house, and I discovered his mother had done some family genealogy all handwritten. That was before Ancestry existed and before I joined Ancestry. He let me bring home the album his mother created, and I took off from there.
I joined Ancestry after that meeting and spent the next 2 years working on my family genealogy. I started the Gamache, Elcik, Byrus genealogy during that time as well. It’s been a work in progress, to say the least. Now with your help, I’m filling in the missing pieces for the Elcik, Byrus family.

I’m sure Terry would love to see the picture of Annie.

I’m calling it a night—lots going on the next couple of days. We’ll talk soon.

Website Reviewed

Beth,

I will fix it. Thanks. Most, not all, my errors had occurred before I learned not to trust Ancestry HINTs and other people’s trees 100%. I’m getting better. At least I hope so. 🙂

You are the first of nine people to accept my offer to see/use the site. With your editor status, you should be able to do anything. For example, you even can see living people and my notes. On your Trees, I must have a contributor or guest status as I can’t see data on living people. That’s ok. I can see what I need to. Also, while you may make changes as an Editor, it is not expected. What you have done by pointed out errors is wonderful. If you notice anything, pass it along. I know I probably sent you too many notes today. Don’t worry; I will slow down as soon as I get over the initial excitement of having my first reviewer. Thank you for the comment about pictures. I have been struggling with how many? What is too much. I may have reached that point. 🙂 I also hope that you can easily download pictures. The 1910 Elcik Family photo may be too big to email. 🙂 Enjoy!

I fixed Loni Beth’s record. I’m embarrassed; I know better as for Eleanor’s name it shows correctly for me. Elinor is an alternate that was picked up in the Census. Eleanor is the preferred spelling.

Ancestry Has Been Fun

July 23, 2020, 10:01 PM

John, IV,

Thank you, John, I’m loving this!! Jack, however, doesn’t give a hoot about Ancestry but I’m addicted. I spent 2 years on my family tree, the Purintons, Days, and Goddards with some Croteaus and Dearnleys mixed in. There are 3 generations of Humphreys (1st name) with wives named Thankful. It took me forever to figure out which generation was which. All that plus, they all had 11 and 12 children. That was just the Purinton line. It’s been fun.

I do more in the winter than I do this time of year. We do a lot of “front porch sittin” this time of year because we have LONG winters in Maine “front porch sittin’ is out of the question!! I will look at John and Andrew Elciks again tomorrow because they’ve confused me too. I’m sure I’ve made some mistakes, but they can easily be fixed.
