Ready to “Cry Uncle”, Yet?

Wed 8/19/2020 3:06 PM

Nope!

This is all fascinating. I need to digest all of it, though.

Speaking of our tree with Brian is interesting. Do I understand this correctly? It seems like the Gamaches are descendants of Ilcik, and one of their descendants (Norman Gamache) married an Elcik (Gertrude Elcik). So, there may be a more direct link between Elcik and Ilcik, but this one happens to be through a marriage of the two.

Also, do you have any more videos of Poppy/ any of Buba?

Re: Family Tree Delay

Beth,

Thanks, both for the update and the good news. I also appreciate your understanding. We (I) have been having fun. That will stop for now with this project.

To give you some idea of this undertaking’s magnitude: I am downloading 5 courses of teaching materials with an average of 15 teaching units per course. Each unit has at least 20 lessons/documents. And each document requires a minimum of three clicks to download, copy, and relocate. I also must organize everything logically into folders. We think there are over 1,500 documents. Ouch! My arm is killing me. They may not make enough pain killers for this assignment. ?

If I can keep up with a 5 Units per day pace, I have 15 days of work. I may only be able to do this every other day. Lol.

There are at least 75 videos within the documents that I don’t yet know how to handle. ?

I have done projects similar for J.P. in the past, But never before on this scale.

Can I Share RootsMagic on a Flash Drive?

Tue 9/1/2020 10:38 AM

Ticket #90515: CD vs Flash Drive
Your request (#90515) has been updated.

Dear RootsMagic Customer:

Thank you for getting back to me. There are different ways that you can share your work with your family. They are as follows:

1. Creating a backup file. When you create a backup file of your data everything is included with the file. You can attach the file to an email and send it to your family. They can download the free version of RootsMagic onto their computers. Then use RootsMagic to open the file. Once the file is opened they can view all the information. They can even add new information to the file should they want to. If the file is too large to send as an attachment through an email you can share the file with them through Dropbox. Dropbox is a free online Cloud service that allows you to store files and information. It also has a nice share tool that allows you to send larger files to people. A normal email will only allow you to attach files up to 3 MBs, but with Dropbox, there is no size limit.

2. You can create a narrative report. The narrative report option puts all of your data into a generation by generation report which is quite nice. I have attached a copy of what the narrative report looks like to this email. When you create a narrative report it includes stories, the primary photo for each person, and all the data in a generation by generation format. You can save the report as a PDF. Then attach it to an email to send to family members.

3. You can create a shareable CD. This puts your information onto a CD for you, which is then read-only. The following link will open a short video showing you how to do this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbOoAh4Jw9E

4. If other family members are using other genealogy software besides RootsMagic you can create a Gedcom file to send to them. To do this you will go up to the File Menu and select Export. Then follow the prompts on the screen to create the Gedcom file. Then you can attach the file to an email to send to them, or you can share the file with them through Dropbox.

I hope that this helps.

Sincerely,
Terri

Facebook Chat – John Elcik and Cheryl Heath

September 1, 2020, 6:39 PM

Cheryl – Hi John, I’m your cousin from Maine. My dad was Richard Elcik. I’m glad I found you.

John – I am too. I’ve been working on our Family Tree, and it has been opening up opportunities for me to reach out and say hello. You were on my list. ? I have been in touch with Mark [Cheryl’s brother], Beth Gamache, and others.

Cheryl – I still remember the last time I saw you all. It’s nice to hear from you.

John – Me too! I am so sorry that time flies, and we don’t visit. Would you like updates on what I am doing with the Family Tree?

Cheryl – Yes, please, that would be great.

John – Life in Florida is good! Pam and I are enjoying semi-retirement. “Semi” because I sell digital real estate at identityXperts.com for fun (my only profit so far has been selling Edulytics.com), and Pam sells Beaded Necklaces as the PrincessOfCrafts.com.

J.P. is getting married this year and has bought a house with his fiance Ana. We are enjoying that they both are teachers with lots of time off. ? J.P. teaches science and math, and Ana is a kindergarten teacher.

Michelle is now working as a Pharmacy Tech for Walgreens. She makes more money than she did as a Store Manager and has more flexibility with her schedule, a good thing. We see her a lot while she makes renovations to the condo she bought with and then from her brother.

Pam and I just adopted a new puppy: Lucy Belle. Daisy and Holly went to the Rainbow Bridge over a year ago, so we felt it was time. Both of us had forgotten; however, how hard it is to train a puppy. Lucy is a challenge.
With Pam’s sister Kathleen also in Fort Myers, there are lots of opportunities for Family activities.

Usually, Pam and Michelle love visiting Mickey and Minnie at Disney in Orlando, and we all love cruises. The big ships are amazing. Disney has reopened (with masks and social distancing), and we have a cruize schedule for our Wedding Anniversary in November. We are hoping the reservation holds.

I am working on an Ancestry.com family tree and monitoring Facebook to stay out of trouble.

How about you and your family?

Cheryl – Joe, and I are still working. We have two kids. Amanda lives in Charleston, S.C she works for the Army Corps of engineers. Joe lives in Maine a few miles away. He’s married and has two kids. Reanna is a senior, and Blake’s is 12 years old.

John – Wow! Sounds wonderful. Working is good with the world as topsy-turvy as it is right now. Have you seen the video of our dad’s singing?

Cheryl – No.

John – I can send you a link. May I have your email?

Cheryl – caheath57@yahoo.com

Cheryl – I work at Brahms Mount. We make high-end blankets.

John – That sounds interesting. I will send you a couple of emails to bring you up to date. Also, I hope by us both being on Facebook; we can keep a conversation going from time to time. I realize you are working, and we are not, so don’t feel any social pressure.

John – Almost all my friends are conservative Republicans, so I hope they and I won’t upset you.

Cheryl – No, that is what makes the world go round.

Cheryl – I tried to reach out to you and your brothers when your dad passed. I couldn’t get anywhere. But I would love to chat every once in a while.

John – Wonderful. Jim just retired, so he joins me on Facebook. I can get you the contact information for both he and Jeff.

Cheryl –  Please, I have sent a friend request to both. I want to stay in touch with you all.

John – I know they join me in wanting that. I’m going to have to sign off for now. Lucy, the new puppy, wants to take a walk, and she has little to no patience. “Patience is a virtue; catch it if you can. Seldom in a woman, never in a man.”

Cheryl – Take care, talk to you later ?

John – Perfect. ?

Cheryl – Bye

John – Bye, for now.
