Facebook Post – Beth Purinton Gamache for John Elcik

08-17-2020

John,

I never knew I was married to a celebrity!!!! I have a Gamache family tree on Ancestry, which includes Elcik and Byras. Byras was Gertrude’s mother’s maiden name. I will share what I have with you on Ancestry. I have some missing links on the Elcik family, but you may help me with that. Jack isn’t on Ancestry and isn’t interested, but I AM!! Hopefully, we can help each other with all this family “stuff.”

Enhancement Requests for Ancestry.com

08-20-2020

Beth,

I’ve put together a sizeable list of feature enhancement requests for Ancestry.com. Would you like to see it? Your input, as well as encouraging you also to submit those you want, is the goal: the more voices, the more likely to be heard and get action. I used to help write software, so I can’t help making suggestions. It’s in my DNA. ?

Facebook Post – John Elcik and Beth Purinton Gamache

08-24-2020

Beth,

Pam and I have been partial to dogs since the beginning of our relationship; Pam’s sister Kathy is our cat lady. Both dogs and cats like squirrels! Is that a real one in your cover photo. Is there a story here?

We have a new puppy: Lucy Belle, a chihuahua and terrier mix. Mostly terrier. After many years our Holly (terrier mix) and Daisy (Chihuahua) went to the rainbow bridge. This was more than a year ago so it was time to adopt. Pam worked as a volunteer coordinator for a shelter when we lived in Ohio. That’s where she found Holly and Daisy. Our first dog who came with our marriage was a Poodle named Sadie.

Neither one of us remembered how hard it is to train a puppy. Cats are so much easier. Kathy’s cats Mr. Grey and Ebony I believe were born trained. ?

Facebook Chat – John Elcik and Cheryl Heath

September 1, 2020, 6:39 PM

Cheryl – Hi John, I’m your cousin from Maine. My dad was Richard Elcik. I’m glad I found you.

John – I am too. I’ve been working on our Family Tree, and it has been opening up opportunities for me to reach out and say hello. You were on my list. ? I have been in touch with Mark [Cheryl’s brother], Beth Gamache, and others.

Cheryl – I still remember the last time I saw you all. It’s nice to hear from you.

John – Me too! I am so sorry that time flies, and we don’t visit. Would you like updates on what I am doing with the Family Tree?

Cheryl – Yes, please, that would be great.

John – Life in Florida is good! Pam and I are enjoying semi-retirement. “Semi” because I sell digital real estate at identityXperts.com for fun (my only profit so far has been selling Edulytics.com), and Pam sells Beaded Necklaces as the PrincessOfCrafts.com.

J.P. is getting married this year and has bought a house with his fiance Ana. We are enjoying that they both are teachers with lots of time off. ? J.P. teaches science and math, and Ana is a kindergarten teacher.

Michelle is now working as a Pharmacy Tech for Walgreens. She makes more money than she did as a Store Manager and has more flexibility with her schedule, a good thing. We see her a lot while she makes renovations to the condo she bought with and then from her brother.

Pam and I just adopted a new puppy: Lucy Belle. Daisy and Holly went to the Rainbow Bridge over a year ago, so we felt it was time. Both of us had forgotten; however, how hard it is to train a puppy. Lucy is a challenge.
With Pam’s sister Kathleen also in Fort Myers, there are lots of opportunities for Family activities.

Usually, Pam and Michelle love visiting Mickey and Minnie at Disney in Orlando, and we all love cruises. The big ships are amazing. Disney has reopened (with masks and social distancing), and we have a cruize schedule for our Wedding Anniversary in November. We are hoping the reservation holds.

I am working on an Ancestry.com family tree and monitoring Facebook to stay out of trouble.

How about you and your family?

Cheryl – Joe, and I are still working. We have two kids. Amanda lives in Charleston, S.C she works for the Army Corps of engineers. Joe lives in Maine a few miles away. He’s married and has two kids. Reanna is a senior, and Blake’s is 12 years old.

John – Wow! Sounds wonderful. Working is good with the world as topsy-turvy as it is right now. Have you seen the video of our dad’s singing?

Cheryl – No.

John – I can send you a link. May I have your email?

Cheryl – caheath57@yahoo.com

Cheryl – I work at Brahms Mount. We make high-end blankets.

John – That sounds interesting. I will send you a couple of emails to bring you up to date. Also, I hope by us both being on Facebook; we can keep a conversation going from time to time. I realize you are working, and we are not, so don’t feel any social pressure.

John – Almost all my friends are conservative Republicans, so I hope they and I won’t upset you.

Cheryl – No, that is what makes the world go round.

Cheryl – I tried to reach out to you and your brothers when your dad passed. I couldn’t get anywhere. But I would love to chat every once in a while.

John – Wonderful. Jim just retired, so he joins me on Facebook. I can get you the contact information for both he and Jeff.

Cheryl –  Please, I have sent a friend request to both. I want to stay in touch with you all.

John – I know they join me in wanting that. I’m going to have to sign off for now. Lucy, the new puppy, wants to take a walk, and she has little to no patience. “Patience is a virtue; catch it if you can. Seldom in a woman, never in a man.”

Cheryl – Take care, talk to you later ?

John – Perfect. ?

Cheryl – Bye

John – Bye, for now.

So, What Is Anatolian?

Monday, Nov 9, 2020
John Elcik –First, a shoutout to my Turkish cousins Sabri and Vladimir. An explanation follows…
My brother Jeff took a 23andMe DNA test with interesting results. Through the 5th generation, our known ancestors came from the Czech Republic and Austria to the United States in the late 1800s. But our family background is more diverse than I ever knew.
Quoting 23andMe, “You most likely had a third-great-grandparent, fourth-great-grandparent, fifth-great-grandparent, sixth-great-grandparent, or seventh-great- (or greater) grandparent who was 100% Anatolian. This person was likely born between 1700 and 1820.”
So what is Anatolian?
Anatolia, Turkish Anadolu, also called Asia Minor, the peninsula of land today, constitutes the Asian portion of Turkey.
I have referred to my Turkish friends on Facebook as “Surname buddies” as we share the Elcik surname. In the eBook that I am writing called “My Cousins,” they are cousins. Wow! That’s nice.
Cheryl Heath – Looks like we are a very interesting family.

Pamela Elcik – You explained this very well… I married into an awesome family!! Thank you Johnnie for doing all this research and sharing it with everyone!! I love you sweetheart!!

Martin Michael Adams – John, was Richard your uncle?
John Elcik – Yes. I’m also working on the Family tree and an eBook to include the Adams family. Send an email to me at johnelcik@msn.com to get access and updates.
Martin Michael Adams – What Adams family?
John Elcik – My maternal grandmother was Charlotte Mae Adams born 26 AUG 1908 in Denmark, Maine, and died 25 FEB 1985 in Meriden, Connecticut. She was married to Clyde Raymond Skillin and their daughter Jacqueline Skillin was my mother. Grandma Adams’s father was Tracy Lee Adams, Sr. and her mother Edith May Purrington. She had a sister Edith May Adams and a brother Charles Harry Adams, Sr.
Eugene Elcik – Wow! that really makes me a mongrel.
John Elcik – Eugene Elcik, we too are mongrels. We like both the human and the dog variety. In the latter category, we have two “designer” dogs. Both are a combination of Chihuahua and rat terrier. Look for pictures to follow.
Eugene Elcik – Thank you, John; I’m waiting for your book. I appreciate your hard work. We Elcik’s have an interesting background, and certainly a proud one. My background includes french, also on my mother’s side. My great-grandmother married a seaman from Spain. That makes things more complex, however, that’s here-say from the family on my mother’s side, all have passed away. Thus, I can’t factually confirm that, only by my brother, Andrew II. We proudly have darker skin, much like a summer tan. Again, my thanks.
Eugene Elcik, My Cousins, is an eBook, an epistolary story told entirely in online communications. Mostly told through email, there are Facebook and LinkedIn communications also shared. It is less about dialog (we do have fun) and more about information sharing. Frankly, I have over 400 posts on a WordPress website. The thought was that Beth Gamache and I would document our journey creating the Elcik family tree, etc. I recognize that only a hardcore genealogist may want to read it. I have side projects: A historical essay (with several companion pieces), a virtual cemetery, a photo gallery, and the family tree itself. There is no end in sight. That being said, I will publish on a flash drive what I have on May 3, 2021. This will be distributed to about 25 people. You made the shortlist.  Our real goal is to inspire other family members to get involved.
Which of the Elcik family was your dad? Did he have a brother Richard??
Richard was my father’s only brother. The girls outnumbered the two of them. Dad was John Paul Elcik, III. My son is J.P. ,V.
  • Richard A. Elcik (1931–2016)
  • John Paul Elcik III (1928–2011)
  • Madelyn R. Elcik (1920–2005)
  • Gertrude Dorothy Elcik (1921–2002)
  • Mary D. Elcik (1923–1998)
  • Eleanor H. Elcik (1925–1956)
